Low-cadmium brass rods
Environmental regulations, in particular EU's ELV, RoHS and WEEE directives, are big issues for the brass production industry. In Japan, various measures have been taken by many businesses to cope with these moves, including the promotion of "green" procurement initiatives. Cadmium is included in such regulations in the list of restricted substances.
We manufacture and sell low-cadmium brass rods as our E series (those with a product code suffixed with the letter "E" in our in-house Standard), which meet the requirements established in the above regulations. Our E series low-cadmium brass rods are manufactured under strict in-process lot control, using carefully selected raw materials with constant monitoring of the cadmium content of the products.
- No raw materials are used that contain a high level of cadmium;
- The target values of the E series chemical compositions are ones that have been used successfully for our conventional products;
- The mechanical qualities and material characteristics are almost the same as those of our conventional brass rods, except that the cadmium content is reduced.
- Machinability features, such as for cutting and hot forging, are also exactly the same as those of our conventional brass rods. When placing an order for brass rods with low-cadmium content, please use the same product code as that of comparable brass rod, and simply add the suffix "E".
- The identification color for E series is purple (both ends of each rod are painted purple and the rods are tied with purple ropes for shipping) so that E series brass rods can be easily distinguished from other types of products.
